Thanksgiving 2010

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

Over the river and through the woods to Grandmother's house we go... Yup, we almost needed a sleigh to get to Jennie and Will's for our Thanksgiving celebration. We can almost always see snow on the hills around us at this time of the year, but to have it in our yard was very unusual. Fortunately everyone made it through the snow, even Luke, who came up from Bellevue. Jennie and Will really wanted Thanksgiving at their house this year for a couple reasons. They got a new dining room table that would seat the whole family and were pretty excited to use it for the first time. Jennie had fun decorating the table. I am so proud of her as she has some great ideas.

Also, Will got a new smoker and he wanted to smoke a turkey. As you can see from the picture below it was a great success. Doesn't it just look picture perfect and it was soooooo good.

Because he couldn't get a very large turkey in the smoker Will also cooked one in the oven. Since we had a Mexican theme to our Thanksgiving dinner this year the turkey and dressing were seasoned with a Mexican seasoning.

The rest of the dinner was also very good, we did have potatoes and gravy, but also sweet potatoes, corn bread, corn, sweet potato barley risotto and several salads. Then there was dessert which was pumpkin pie, pumpkin cheese cake and pumpkin cake. Hmmmmmm!

Here's the Evans, Thompson, Becker, Sessions, Anderson and Bryan families

I always like to bring a project for us to work on. This time we made cookie turkeys. They were fun to make and also good to eat.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

Our First Snow

The first snow of the season is always so much fun. They were predicting snow for Whatcom County and sure enough it started last night just after dinner. We turned the outside lights on and watched the flakes fall as we sat by the fire with a hot buttered rum. Ah, the joys of the season.
We woke to sunshine, so I went outside to get some snow pictures before it all melted. Well, here it is at 3:30 PM, the temperature is dropping and we still have snow. The Northeast wind is blowing, which brings the really cold temperatures to this area, but we are protected from it. So, we are still covered with snow. We might be getting more, as they are predicting more for Tuesday.

Chetzemoka

On Saturday we took the ferry and went over to Chimacum to visit the Finnriver Farm and Cidery. Robin had seen it on Evening Magazine and we thought it would be a fun adventure. Besides, this was the last weekend for the Steilacoom II ferry, so it was a great opportunity for one last ride.
Here you can see the Steilacoom II leaving the ferry landing with the Chetzemoka holding back in the fog just waiting to make it's grand entrance for the Christening Celebration. The Coast Guard was very visible to keep the ferry landing safe.

And here is the new Chetzemoka ferry. It is a 64 car ferry that will greatly increase the number of cars that will be able to travel between Keystone and Port Townsend. We camp right near the ferry landing and it always fun watching the ferry traffic.

Governor Gregoire Christened the ferry. She had been told that it is bad luck if you don't break the bottle of champagne, so she really hit it hard against the railing. However, the bottle had a Kevlar bag around it to keep the glass from going everywhere and she hit it so hard that she broke the bag and the glass went flying. We obviously have a powerful little Governor.
It was a rainy and rather cold day, but there was excitement in the air and we had a great time. After the ferry left for it's celebration on the Port Townsend side we went to the Keystone Cafe and got one of their new coffee drinks....... the Chetze - Mocha.

The Color Purple

We went to see "The Color Purple" at the Mt. Baker Theater. How lucky we are to get such quality Broadway productions in our little town. This was one of the best shows I have seen, and the cast was outstanding. Oh, and could they ever sing. With the schedule they keep I am surprised that their voices hold out from day to day, but it didn't seem to be a problem. They were in Olympia the night before Bellingham, then they were headed to Tacoma the next day for a matinee and an evening show and then on down to Portland. It's one or two shows a day for months. This tour will end in June or July. That's a lot of singing!
