Big Rock Gardens

Big Rock Gardens is a Bellingham City Park located near Lake Whatcom. It covers 2.5 wooden acres and showcases original sculpture. There are 36 permanent works in the gardens and from May 8th to September 30th there will be 7 temporary pieces on display. Since this park is not far from Amber and Jerad's house Amber thought it would be fun to start our Mother's Day with a walk to the gardens to see the new displays.

The first piece we saw was Now or Never by Shirley Erickson. As I found out she plays Pickleball with Ron and was in the park to answer questions about her work. It's always fun to meet the artist and learn more about how each piece is created. The piece is called Jump and is by Francisco SalgadoThis is another one of Shirley's pieces and is titled World Ladder. And yet another one of Shirley's pieces. This one is called Past Mandala. The light blue you see is glass and was melted and fused in a kiln.Amber thought this was more like the type of sculpture that Ron makes. Notice the gears at the bottom and the shovel at the top? It was really created by Thor Myhre and is called Buddha. It wasn't the nicest day, but there were a lot of people in the park enjoying the art work and plants.
